The previous answerer had some really good tips. I would like to reiterate when he says that write only about what you know, because that way you are sure of yourself and you can get creative, and write with pizazz and flair. And another thing which he says, is so true, never write for the sake of writing or force yourself to put words on paper ever.

Apart from that I would also like to add, never repeat a word in your write-ups, poetry or prose. Enrich your vocabulary, learn new words every day and try to use them in sentences. Also, read a lot. Reading and writing go hand in hand, the more you read, the more you will write.

Now about Poetry, Poetry is about stringing thoughts and feelings into a verse using a meter and rhyme. You need to familiarize yourself about the Iambic pentameter, I have attached a site which explains it in great detail. Do not rhyme for the sake of it and use figures of speech like Metaphors, Alliterations and Similes. Read a lot of good poems by great poets to get ideas and inspiration. poetseers.com is a good site.

ive just recently completed a class newsletter with my class using microsoft publisher. the children were split into groups of 3 and had to write an article in their groups for the newsletter. we added pictures also. we are currently working on a mini newspaper which has school and local news articles. good luck!
