OK so you write about a boy with Aspergers' Syndrome who is feeling really down. Depressed. Stressed and such. Write of how he develops a relationship with a friend he barely knew until they become brothers. The friend comes to the first kid in his darkest hour. The first boy turns his depression around by becoming a counsellor and his brother becomes a loving father to two kids.

if you are looking for interesting stories check out The Smoking Gun, and check out the archive. A majority of their articles are funny or weird crime related stories. Even if you can't find something that you want to directly write about, you will at least get some ideas.

why not just go with the quote as you've written it here? You don't need to actually use the quote. You could write a story that begins with a person 1/3 of the way through a leap from a 20 story building and the person is regretting the jump. It's a pretty good premise for a story.

Look up John Barth--he wrote a story about the 24 hours preceding the moment at which the main character decides NOT to commit suicide. Okay, I looked it up. It was called "The Floating Opera."

I think the dragon story could be really comical, but the fairy godmother story could be really sweet.

Maybe a story about Big Foot struggling to maintain a living in New York City? He doesn't blend in very well, can't make a living...there aren't any woods nearby for him to hide.
