Writing English short story - Good imagery for someone going insane? We Answered:
*ahem*And that one! he thinks, whirling to try and catch it in the act. like the look mothers give to childrens trousers after a good days skidding on their knees. Terrible look, that. He shivers. another! Slim woman, leaning on a doorframe. He strides up to the painting, nose to nose with the woman, daring her to look at him that way again.

Can anyone help me decide what to study, I like story writing, English and art...?We Answered:
If you want to be a published author, try to major in creative writing that focuses on fiction (cause you write stories). You can also try to major in either English literature, English linguistics, or English teaching (cause you like English). I suggest you take English literature as a major and minor in creative writing, so you can polish your writing skills and study literary theories at the same time. Good luck.Leslie Said:
Is this a good idea for a story for an english writing portfolio? We Answered:
It might be just me, but there are in my opinion no bad story ideas per se. What makes a story better or worse is its execution in terms of style and language. No less a writer than Willa Cather once said(I paraphrase), there are only 2 or 3 stories in the world and they repeat themselves fiercely. So, it seems you have your beginning, and now you have to show your readers how the boy changes once he falls in love. Your idea may or may not be fresh, but you can own it with your style and your language and your own insights.Jonathan Said:
help on writing a gothic story for english homework? We Answered:
A mansion or an abandoned house can be attributed with the appropriate 'Gothic' literary elements. A house that was the site of unexplained murders. A haunted house. A mansion that one day was unexplicably abandoned and the owners never to be seen or heard from again but all of their things remained within the home...Nina Said:

Is it ok to use foreign words when writing an English story or novel? We Answered:
Definitely use foreign words! It adds flavor and realism to your story. I'd shy away from footnotes in a novel. There are ways to use non-English words without making your readers feel like they're getting a lecture on Filipino. In dialogue, if you provide enough context, readers should be able to figure out a word or two at a time. Greetings and nicknames are pretty much universal. And you can always have another character respond in English. If the reader has the answer, they can usually figure out the question on their own.
Another way is to simply to add a comma after the first time the unfamiliar word is used. For example (in Spanish): "Hola, hello..." And then just use hola from then on out.
