Jesse Said:

What is the link between people with mental illness and their ability to be brilliant and creative?

We Answered:

I guess you can say that their brains are "wired" differently - and this causes them to react to the world differently. They might perceive the world differently which would cause a response different to people without disorders. Or perhaps their perception is the same, but just a different response. It is well known that different parts of the brain are used for different tasks (the left parietal lobe is better used for logic while the right parietal lobe is used for creativity). There might be a difference in the connection between the two, as there was for the Rainman. The Rainman memorizes everything he reads (like 90% or something).

Basically, the simple answer to your question would be "the wiring of each individual's brain".

Original Story Ideas?

We Answered:

You're not going to come up with a completely original idea. Every idea has already been done and if you can think it up then someone has definitely already thought it up. It's not the idea that's original but the way you express that idea. You originality will come in the form of your plots and characters. How can you take an ordinary idea and give it a unique spin that different that what you're used to reading? There's a reason why you cannot copyright an idea and that's because there aren't any original ideas, just different tellings of the same ideas.

How about this. A vampire/zombie story. Lol. I'm serious. I'll explain and also explain how you can write it from a unique POV. Vampires and zombies are already dead. One is slow and mindless and loves blood, the other is fast, has keen instincts and loves blood. THe world is overrun with zombies and vampires and...humans, of course. It doesn't matter how people are turning into vampires or zombies, that's beside the point. it could be a rogue scientist or corporation (like Umbrella) or it could be a metorite that hit earth. That's not important. The original POV is showing the actual process of how it's determined WHICH walking dead a person will be. Use your creativity. You have a character that's infected (maybe) or is dying and they're changing into the undead. Is it going to be a zombie or vampire? Take me, as a reader, through this process and this character's pain and show me how they're turning into one or the other and is there something that can be explained scientifically (not real science, obviously) which it's going to be.

My next totally creative idea is to create a vampire/zombie love story and they have hybrid babies. OH SO COOL! lol.

Carrie Said:

creative/idealist/artistic...what would be a good job for me and where do i start?

We Answered:

Why not, a photo-journalist? Those types who make documentary kind of stuffs. As you have describe yourself you are compassionate. Maybe you could make a good documentary regarding people who are unfortunate in their lives, animals who are endangered or among others. A photo-journalist would do. Maybe someday you would be one of those award-winning journalist of our time.
A psychologist is not suitable for you if you really want to travel and be in new environment. A psychologist most of the times stays in his clinic though you are to meet a lot of people with different personalities even those who have disorders. Being a pyshologist you have to stick to what they called professional ethics. When compared to being a photo-journalist you have the freedom of the press as long as you don't abuse it.
An actor, not bad. But it only gives you a glamorous life, nothing else. Well, maybe some benefits of being a respected actor but then when you are already known to people, it is really hard to be the role model. Every movement even the merest blink of your eye is being watched by many people especially the paparazzis.
A tatto artist, you could only apply your creativity. You can't inspire almost all people to have tattoo.
So, i suggest a photo-journalist. You could be at the same time a photographer and a writer. You could apply your creativity through your written documets. You could be idealistic and inspire and be inspired through the topic you choose to cater certain audiences. You could show compassion through making documentary news.
But then, it's what you want that really matters. Just helping you out to make the decision a little easier. God Bless with your career.

What is a good idea for a novel?

We Answered:

Try writing prompts to get ideas.

I'd read a book about a girl and a disease, because I'm really into powerful and moving novels. You don't have to go far out, either. If you are a powerful writer, then a book about growing up with autism or something can be very amazing.
But other than that, I don't have any ideas to feed you. Sorry. Try talking to your reading/writing friends (if you have any of the kind), because I find that when I talk out loud about something I get a sudden rush of ideas, and then I can bounce them off of my friends. (that being said, hold the conversation with someone who isn't afraid to tell you what's stupid). That's how I came up with the novel I'm writing right now.

Dawn Said:

Do you think people who write horror novels are sick in the head, or just very creative?

We Answered:

Clyde Said:

Poets, can you write a poem inspired by this painting?

We Answered:

Skin like stone or wood
a meteor in a man-shaped hood
fuzzy maw, devoid of should
Caught in the leprous cast of shadows.

What is that in his eyes
Is it horror, fear or surprise?
as the need for his progeny's demise
becomes apparent.

The oily red between greedy fingers
half-human, half chop-meat the corpse malingers
In this, our survival, lie a thousand stingers.
Every meal, a pair of legs.

Using part of Tchaik 1 for my own piano concerto?

We Answered:

Of course it is fraud, theft, plagiarism - and so transparently so, as to make yourself a laughingstock in the eyes of any and every serious musician. WHO CARES where Tchaikovsky got HIS original idea from - if it was a common folk-song, then HE did not have to worry about theft, but rather used this theme in the spirit of Nationalism that is prevalent in his music. You, on the other hand, are CLEARLY asking us "is it OK to steal?" when you KNOW it is not. If you have the skills to write you own concerto, then please come up with your own ideas!

Is there anything I can steal from YOUR house when you are not home? Yikes!!!

Discuss It!
