Creative Writing Unit

Glenn Said:

Teachers, what are some creative ideas for a persuasive writing unit?

We Answered:

Write to the Mayor stating why a rubbish recycling plant should not be built in your village.

Write to your local newspaper asking people to support you in your bid to have a new swimming pool and sports centre built in the town.

You are a volunteer worker with a group of underprivileged kids. Write a letter to local businesses asking for funding so that you can take them on holiday - give reasons why they need it.

Help on an English paper....?

We Answered:

You could base it on something that's going on in your own community right now or something that happened in the past. For example, The Outsiders was based on real tension between social groups in Oklahoma.

If you have a relative who has lived an interesting life, you could write about him or her in a fictional way--maybe someone is a war hero or did something amazing. That could be a good story to work with.

unwillingness to believe that i am actually GOOD at something?

We Answered:

Do it again to see if it was justified or just meant to build you up. Actually, who cares? Having positive comments is always better than hearing negatives.

Perhaps you need to build your self esteem a bit. try attending a Toastmasters club. There are positive people there who are trying to better themselves. they do this by evaluating each other and after a while they get pretty good at it. You may be allowed to read your material (set it up with what you were responding to first) and then get their feedback. they will give you what they feel is positive as well as areas for improvement. Be sure to tell them you are interested in your content, not the delivery so much.

Since you are in school, you are not eligible (by age) to join a club but that doesn't mean you can't attend (for free) and learn something in the process.

How do I start again?

We Answered:

go sit in a place that is beautiful, soothing, and comfortable like maybe at the beach or under a shady tree and with a pen and notebook and just sit there and think about life, how good or bad it is
walk around and feel the weathers breeze
good luck and if you want you can send some poems to me and i can see if you are such a good poet as you claim lol

good luck:)

Creative Writing?

We Answered:

That's really well written. You could tune up the language. You know, try to sound more professional. Avoid 'star' language for one.
