Creative Writing Thesis

Jeanne Said:

When writing an Essay, does the Thesis Statement have to be creative?

We Answered:

Either way can be fine. The introduction should be interesting enough to hook the reader though.

This all depends on the type of essay you're writing.

How can i improve my thesis statement?

We Answered:

A lot depends who your reader will be. If the reader is informed then you may not need to be more elaborate in your thesis sentence. On the other hand, instructors some times want see that the student has an understanding of the subject matter. Further, ALD is kind of exotic and complex in a way. Maybe you should refine the topic in a way that makes it interesting to you.

ALD is a rare, inherited metabolic disorder a disease that attacks the central nervous system by systemically destroying its protective cover, the myelin sheath. It …........

Rather than vast history, maybe you could limit your area of research of ALD to one aspect such as its history or origins, for example:

1 - Medical or diagnostic history(? - not sure what the term would be) but: ALD damages the adrenal glands, the disorder can begin as Addison's disease, an adrenal gland disorder. 1-physical symptoms, behavioral changes…

==>How the disease is detected (the tests, diagnosis etc.) and discovered by Lorenzo Odone.

2 - The epidemiology: It is not indigenous to any particular group of people. X-ALD is an X-Linked disorder that affects only males. It is transmitted by a female carrier. Since this is the case, Do All Boys with ALD Die? Who was Lorenzo Odone?

==>The prognosis and cure rate could be a transition sentence here

3 - It’s notoriety/public awareness: is commonly known to American's as "Lorenzo's Oil Disease", named after an 1993 Oscar nominated film starring Susan Sarandon and Nick Nolte. It is based on a family's experience with the disease.

Anywho, I'm not scientifically minded so you probably have to rearrange things in a way that flows :)

**You might want to read through these reviews about the movie if you have not seen the move. Here is a link to "Lorenzo's Oil" DVD on Amazon. It is a true story, but the reason I think glossing through the reviews will help is that you will pick up ways to phrase a lot of the symptoms of the disease and get a better feel for the topic.

A Biology paper does not have to be dry. Ideally, it should address some of the subject areas or terminology you have learned so far; but more than anything, it, in some way has to be meaningful and make sense to you. Good luck.

Dean Said:

creative way to write a thesis ?

We Answered:

To write a creative thesis, its always good to use (slightly more) intelligent words and phrase them in such a way that the main argument or purpose is understood. Sometimes it is better to go from something broad to something narrower Here is an example:

"More often than not, people contribute in anothers death; this is true in the case of Tom, Daisy, and George in The Great Gatsby, where all three equally contributed in the death of Gatsby by their actions."

In this thesis, it goes from talking about people killing others accidentally and purposefully, to the specific example. Writing it different from what you would normally write is a relief for english teachers; reading the same thesis on 200 different papers is not very fun. A different approach, if it is effective usually bumps up your score.

Discuss It!
