Creative Writing Styles

Harry Said:

How do I improve my writing (creative) and speaking?

We Answered:

OK Sweetness, you basically want to become a compendium of a lexicon, with prodigious powers of elocution? Allow me to provide some edification or elucidation! To be creative, one must emulate others who have demonstrated their passion & propensity to amuse, enlighten or entertain their readers with witticisms as a raconteur.

Now, what are must useful in that endeavor are movie reviews, newspaper editorials (I particulary enamored with the New York Times), & authors whose grasp on not only the written language, but to write in such a way to stand out from mere hacks who write drivel.

For example, the hack would write: I'm rather fond of words that sound alike. Walter Cronkite phrased it more creatively: I am unashamedly addicted to alliteration.

You should become well versed in words, what they mean, & how best use them to concisely convey your ideas. And too, take into consideration who your audience will be, & their ability to interpret the meaning & the message.

Warmest regards,
Ricky

Lucille Said:

What do you think about my creative writing?

We Answered:

Well, what you have there isn't a story, it is more of a character study. Your style is a bit choppy, but not too bad. The only thing missing is a plot. Nothing happens. It is just a study of a person. Pax - C

Juanita Said:

English creative writing: different styles...?

We Answered:

Use third person as in some fiction writing. Where the writer (you) describe the event as a narrator telling the story. Instead of saying it in first person like this: I went across the room to look out the window, use third person would like this-- She went across the room to look out the window.

Tyrone Said:

What is your favourite style of creative writing to read?

We Answered:

I like "Catcher," too, and character-driven fiction in general. I really like to get into a character's head.

I am not a fan of genre fiction at all (sci-fi, romance, thriller, etc.).

Pick up "On the Road" by Jack Kerouac next.

Rachel Said:

What do you call: opposite of creative writing?

We Answered:

And about writing styles... I'm not quite sure.
