Creative Writing Study

Carol Said:

Study Creative writing or Painting/Drawing?

We Answered:

As a backup, most people choose a business major in college. Although it may not be as interesting as you would like, having a degree in business allows for a host of possibilities from owning your own business to working your way through major companies.

If business really isn't your thing, creative writing is not a bad idea. From the internet to magazines, newspapers to book publishers, every one needs writers. You may want to consider taking the route of a bachelor's in English, though. That will give you the literature background with a high degree in competency writing academic papers. (There are websites that hire people solely to write academic papers and pay upwards of $50 per paper.) For creative writers who major in English, the trick is finding a school that offers an emphasis or minor in a related field: Journalism, Media, Publishing, Creative Writing, Non-Fiction Writing, etc. Focus your electives on writing classes rather than extra literature classes. As writers are also needed for press releases, screen plays, grants and advertising, a degree in English may help more than an undergraduate degree in creative writing.

Although you do not wish to major in anything music related, music education, where you can teach and share your passion with others, may be a viable option.
