Creative Writing Structure

Fred Said:

I'm a writing an autobiography for a class. Does anyone have any creative ideas as how to structure it?

We Answered:

That is an excellent assignment. Remember that how you structure it will mean little if you don't take the time to write it well! Both should be in balance. That is key.

That said, so such interesting structures if you can back them up with great writing are as follows:

1) Write it from the point of view of you in the afterlife, looking down on everything you've done and how it is all connected.

2) Write what you'd like your epitaph to be and then discuss what you've done to fulfill that idea.

3) Write the plot backwards, starting with your state in life now and progressing toward your birth.

4) Pick what is most important to you in life, and relate everything, in creative order, to that one notion.

5) Write it from the point of view of a split personality, the creative you trying to describe "the real" you.

6) Write it as if it were a rebuttal in Congress against the things you hate most about the planet.

7) Write it as if you'd never been born, looking curiously in on the fantasy of living.

8) Write it as if your soul is your core, layered with flesh, then layered with clothing, then layered with what is immediately around you until each layer is a different aspect of your role on the planet.

There are a few punctuation marks that you have ommitted, but they do not detract from the content or meaning.

How do I make my "about me" piece of writing creative?

We Answered:

I think you should do it in the form of a story, but in another persons point of view. Like, what another person would see you as, what they think of you, etc..
An example would be...a person meets you for the first time and they make comments about you and such.
I hope you understand what I'm trying to say!
