Creative Writing Singapore

Constance Said:

Where in Singapore can I study M.A Creative Writing? (I live in India)?

We Answered:

yes singapore is the best place to M.A

Yvonne Said:

Where can i find good creative writing course in Singapore?

We Answered:

You're going to work in a publishing firm - as a writer or editor? i would suggest getting some formal training in writing/editing instead of a creative writing course. Because if you're going to be writing in a publishing firm, it's probably going to mean more focused type of writing (marketing copy, academic writing etc.) rather than "creative" writing. Some places to look at include TMC, NTU and some of the polytechnics.

Adrian Said:

what job should i try and take up? i'm a communication studies major, just out of school?

We Answered:

Speaking as an experienced TV news producer here...

You are just starting out. Begin at a small local station or small company, and try everything.

This will give you the benefit of gaining an understanding of all aspects of the process. Then, you choose a direction to specialize based on what you enjoy the most. I was was a producer who also wrote, did tape editing, and videography. You can do it all (and do it all with skill) if you want to invest the time to learn that much.

Hazel Said:

It's the 15th of February 1942, Singapore has fallen, You have to design a Tank for the Australian Army.?

We Answered:

im in agreement with Mar F but what the hell, might as well give a crack at it.

A) option 1. but in additions i would bolt extra plates of armour just like the Germans did to the Stug in order to up armour and not take much time in production(this is if later on it need to be up armoured). plus its simpler to bolt extra peices of armour than to weld it together. Mainly I would like about 45 mm of armour on the hull at the front sloped at 60 degrees from the vertical(less than the Stuart or Grant). The extra 30mm plates could be bolted on if it ever needs to be up armoured.

B) Anywhere between 18 and 19 tons; since its main use will be against the Japanese tanks that were on the light side and under gunned and under armoured for even the Stuart. Plus if its lighter then it would have better mobility if used in defence in the jungle or on the offense invading an island with jungle or tougher terrain. Mobility would play a role. essentially just a little heavier than Stuart tank but lighter than the Grant. Plus greater mobility if it had to be deployed in defence of Australia.

C)From M3 Grant....engine,.30 cal guns, probably transmission
D) From the Crusader I would copy the general design of the hull (but sloped at 60 degrees at the front) and try to slope the side and rear if possible. and the road wheels to spread out the weight evenly(idk how many roadwheels would be needed) for the roadwheels definately not like that of the panther(interleaved) because it would be more problems to maintain.

F)8...the torsion bar is a lot more durable than most of the others. You can change the ride height of the vehicle, they take up less room in the interior of the vehicle compared to those that use springs. Plus the torsion bar can support more weight unlike the Chritie(for light tanks). More helpful in case the tank is ever up gunned or up armoured (when that happens weight usually goes up. Plus the hull can stay realatively low like in the Crusader or later M24. I definately dont want the Christie(too much maitanence) plus i dont think the tank will be racing around in certain environments like the jungle or if used on the offence on an island. If the torsion is anything close to similar to those in cars then they will be a lot simpler to replace or repair(i know some stuff about fixing cars).

G) As for armament the 37mm gun was adequete enough to take on Japanese tanks, only problem is a lack of an HE round( if any could have been used the effect would be like that of a grenade). The Cromwell gun had good HE but not so good AP rounds. Plus a lot less ammo could be carried. So i'd go with something in the between and you get the 6 pounder(57mm) gun.It was an effective tank killer(one in a churchill was able to knock out a tiger.) The 6 pdr gun could in British tanks could take on the panther and tiger but not at the front but at the side or rear. This gun was criticized for lack of HE, but it did have a good HE round the problem was that production was slow in favor of AP rounds. Plus since its smaller caliber you can carry more rounds compared to a 75mm gun, but less than 37 mm. Since main use would be against the Japanese(where tanks werent used much) it could easily take out just about any tank(they were under armoured and gunned) And it would have sufficient HE power to take out soft targets like say log bunkers in jungle and so forth.

H)Secondary armament would be maybe 2 .30 cal machine guns. One coaxially mounted, the other in the hull, maybe a .50cal on top of the turret(maybe) to be used as somekind of AA(Japanese aircraft like Zero had little armour) but mainly for infantry support. But if there is a .50 cal it should be able to rotate on the turret to cover 360 degree protection and so user does not have to get out of vehicle. Another variation would replace the hull gun for a flamethower(useful in jungle)

I) For crew definately a 3man turret(gunner, loader and commander) it increases crew efficiency as the commander has to focus on locating targets like tanks but more likely AT guns since meant against the Japanese. The commander would only operate the .50 cal if there is no threat of enemy AT capability. A Driver/engineer would be needed. Final crew member would be radio op./hull gunner

J)Wide track to help spread weight and make movement easier like in the mud, so the tank wont sink. Allow to move in jungle or island sand, help navigate tougher terrain on an island.

K)already said before..Front(sloped 45 mm 60 degree). Turret(pretty much like that of the crusader since it could house the 6pdr gun, just weld and slope the front part of turret, overall maybe 45-40mm of armour) Sides 40mm armour trying to slope.(like i said earlier if ever needed 30mm plates can be bolted on the sides or front like on the stug, or an armoured skirt can be added to also portect the tracks like the Germans did to stug and panzer4 if neccessary). Rear 35mm sloped at Overall its the crusader hull just sloped or the armoured skirt is added.

L) I guess since the M3 Grant provides the parts, then it's engine will be used since it was mechanically reliable plus my design should be lighter than the M3 Grant so more horse power. It will weigh more than the Stuart due to the gun and ammunition. Because it has less armour than the Stuart(but it utilizes sloped armour to compensate and probably be better especially front at 60 degrees) Plus add the different engine, and an extra crew member than the Stuart. Although the chassis should weigh tank should weigh less than Grant, plus there would only be 5 crew members unlike 6 or 7 for the Grant. The Engine might have to upgraded if the the Tank is up armoured with bolted 30mm paltes or so forth or if up gunned. One final feature I would add is the smoke grenades like on the tiger should the tank ever have to fall back.

The tank should be formidable as I found balance amongst the Stuart Grant and the Crusader. Took the best out of all and bingo.

hello pple, what do you think of my poem? It's entitled Your Body(Singapore's national museum), My Body?

We Answered:

I like this very much....I'm puzzled by the title, though...is there a museum in Singapore called 'Your Body'?

Quite a lot of the references meant nothing to me MM Lee/Eng Wah and Char Kway Teow and Katong Laksa...but, that didn't prevent me from enjoying the imagery...in fact I think that added to it..giving me a taste of some-where new.
I like the care you have taken with the placing of your sentences, adding extra nuances and emphasising words.
Thank you.
