Creative Writing School

Justin Said:

Which Ivy League school is best to become a writer? Especially a strong creative writing school.?

We Answered:

Brown and Columbia have the strongest writing programs in the Ivies, but as others have said, "elite" doesn't mean a whole lot when it comes to creative writing. The important thing is to find faculty and classes that match up well with your focus and style.

Valerie Said:

What do you do in creative writing in high school?

We Answered:

My high school never had a creative writing class but my advice would be to enjoy it. I'm a BIG writer, in fact I want to be an author and I would've loved to have that class.

From everyone I have asked and my previous knowledge, in creative writing, the teacher usually helps you express your writing. Some of my english class was creative writing and my teacher would give us guidelines for a story and we had to write it. the guidelines would be something like:
2,000 words (which is very easy when you get going)
set in the summer time
romance involved...

that type of stuff. Writing is really fun. sometimes they have you do poems, sometimes short stories and sometimes more... It's only hard if you get writers block or the teacher is mean. To get a 100 in that class, just do your work. A teacher should not get mad if you ask questions or need help expressing you words on paper or going over the word limit. Just try your best. You'll have a blast and remember: not everyone gets this opportunity and you'll be glad you took it because you'll need it later in life when you do essays or other assignments.

Good luck!!

How can I get onto my school's creative writing team?

We Answered:

If you have a set routine that has worked for you don't change it based on the person who evaluates your work. Take the practicing method that's been successful and, if anything, add to it. On exercises, here's one that really made me settle in and earn my points. Take a scenario, say, a car accident and write 2-10 pages in first person. Now take the same scenario and write in third person. Then make it fun; describe the accident from the perspective of a neighbor's cat.

You'd be surprised how much you can wring from a moment in time.

Good Luck
