Creative Writing Majors

Nellie Said:

Colleges/Universities with good Creative Writing majors?

We Answered:

McNeese University in Lake Charles Louisiana is a small state school with a nationally renowned english and writing program. Most of the english teachers have PH.D.s, and five of them are fullbright scholors. I believe that a very high percentage of graduate students publish before they leave school. It is relatively unknown outside of Louisiana and academic circles, which has the added benefit of keeping fees low.
The teachers are kind and caring- and, being in Louisiana, you will have no problem coming up with colorful characters to write about.

We Answered:

Well I'm not a psych or english major (im a global econ major), but i can tell you as a freshman here at SC, I love it here! The weather is wonderful and teachers are nice, everyone who goes here are very nice too. I have heard that SC is really good with english but i dont know anything about psych except its a popular major, as it is everywhere.

Andre Said:

What is the difference between the MAJORS: Creative Writing and English Composition?

We Answered:

Creative writing probably involves more poetry and short story writing where English composition might be more essay writing and less creative in that you might not be writing stories/poems from your head but having to read and analyse texts for an English composition course. Check the course description at the university for details; usually they would have a web site.

Audrey Said:

are there any creative writing majors?

We Answered:

My husband is an english prof and he gets plenty of students who can't write. It's ok, as long as you're not there just because you think you couldn't major in something "real".

With every course you take, make sure you're very clear of the professor's objective for you in that course. If it's your major and you don't ace the first assignment each semester in each course, get yourself to their office and find out exactly what was expected of you and why you fell short. Just keep improving and you'll be fine. If you get sick of something, it wasn't the right major for you.

His graduates do different things depending on what's going on in society. Right now a lot of them are going to work in movies.

Creative writing majors at colleges in Chicago?

We Answered:

I'm pretty sure Columbia College has that program for sure. So I would research that school and make sure you think it will fit your needs.

I'm also pretty sure DePaul University may also have a Creative Writing Program, if not I know they have a Writing Program. In the theatre school at DePaul, they have a Playwriting program (that may also be something you are interested in)
