Yes, I find it interesting, but yet a bit dull for the AFTER your opening peice. I like the preluding to something interesting, but how will you carry your idea out?

Lots of holiday stories are about 1) finding the perfect gift and 2) trying to get home for the holidays. Or 3) the longing for the "true meaning of Xmas".

You could try to go a slightly different route. Have your hero/heroine try to get home but they are forced (because they are so nice) to help someone ELSE get home instead of them. They don't get home but they get the "true spirit of Xmas". Flesh out the story with the details of the trip. Your hero is in the city and driving back to Grandparents in the country. Or your heroine is a soldier overseas & helps out other soldiers (she gives them her special pass to leave the base). Or do a story from the point of view of a pet (Dog thinks tree in the house is for him). Lonely man/woman is drawn back into "life" by the arrival of a stray animal who will not leave -- the pet has decided - this person is his owner no matter what. Have drama because real owner shows up.

Just some fast ideas -- good luck with your project!!!
