End it with a question. Or something to put forward a mystery. Like say they do fix it, but then add to it. Like:

Suddenly, a black car started to shadow us. It followed closely, but kept its distance. It came closer and closer. Suddenly it rammed into us and everything went black.

Or end with a question. Like:

It all happened so fast. I opened my eyes and saw it all at once. Why am I here and what will happen to me?

Michael stud there, hunched beside an oak tree staring at the gold leaf writing on the carved stone, his mind trying desperately not to think back of the memories. The memories he thought, the laughter, the adventure, the first time they met - yes that cold winter in Newcastle city centre helping her up after a nasty fall from the steps of Greys Monument. Then the last memory the nurse setting up the morphine drip, the family gathered around all sorrowful, her last facial expression aimed towards him a smile. Michael then placed some poppies, her favourite onto the bottom of the tomb-stone, reading it as he lay praying on her 3rd anniversary " Kate Ampleforth 12/09/1976 - 19/12/2010 'Loving Wife and Mother' 'The light shines in the darkness and the darkness will not overcome it' " His mobile rang much to Michaels relief, he needed to be occupied. These last few years Michael concentrated on his career in the armed service, he never properly grieved and he knew it! As a Navel Officer Michael rose through the ranks and was on call today. The phone call was his Admiral "Commander Ampleforth report to Hartlepool Docks, ASAP, Your to command HMS Northumbria, report to my room at 20:15pm! Lets just say North Korea has done something silly" Michael didn't get a chance to exchange pleasantries, as he hurried to his car he had one glance back at the resting place of his beloved, "It should have been me" he thought. ..............
