Can i become an English teacher if i major in Creative writing and minor in Education studies? We Answered:
You can do this for your BA then move on to a transition to teaching or certification for teaching for you Masters. However, if you know teaching is what you want then I'd just go for the major in Education, minor in Creative writing, and use your electives to pick up more writing classes. With a BA in Education you'll get more experience in teaching infront of the classroom. Plus, you know where you'll be getting your degree. In order to really decide I'd call around and ask other colleges about their masters program for Education and your other options (wrting? englsih?).
Do a little more research but, I'd just go for Education if you know that's what you want.
Good luck!

I am afraid a creative writing education will wreck my creativity? We Answered:
I don't think that it will lose your originality, creative writing does take a great deal of skills. Taking education will be a way of further developing and furnishing the skills that you have already done. Those authors that tell you that, may not be the "school" type material, and may prefer to work on their own.But remember that no education that you take will help "worsen your skills". Every course and program out there is meant to help enhance your skills. I have had people all my life tell me different things of what I couldn't and could do and when I could do them.
The best suggestion that I could give you, is follow your instincts!!! That is your best friend. If your heart tells you not to take the course, then don't do it, but if your heart tells you to take the course, then take the course.
Creative writing also comes "instincts" and "from the heart" so that is why I say listen to your heart, and you will go very far in the future.
Hope this helps you!

Would it be to much to double major in Creative Writing and English and minor in Education Studies? We Answered:
The majors sound like they fit and you should be able to complete both, with the minor. Creative writing and English have many similar classes - you could apply one to both majors, most likely. You didn't mention which college you attend, or plan to attend, but most colleges are similar in the arts and sciences, like English. As for Education Studies, these classes aren't exceedingly difficult, and many you can opt to take as an elective to your majors and apply them to a minor (a minor usually only calls for 15-18 credits, and you will need 60 elective credits - so, it is certainly do-able).You don't need a master's degree directly following your undergraduate education - you only need to enroll in a teaching certificate program, in your case adolescent or higher learning (like K-12, rather than early childhood education). Most states require a master's degree within five years of obtaining your teaching degree (in New York, where I am located, for example, this is the case). If there is only a BA program at your school, you can certainly relocate - the BA will apply to any accredited university in the US, as long as you obtained it at an accredited university in the US. Your best bet would be to apply and attend where teachers are in high demand - like New York, Chicago, LA, etc. Good luck!

Would taking a double major in English education, and creative writing be too cumbersome? We Answered:
Ok, it's possible to double major in English Ed and creative writing, but I am not sure why you would want to do it. To me they are contradictory. An English Ed degree focuses more on the history of education, theories of learning, proxemics, lesson planning, classroom management, and other education-ese subjects than it does on writing, grammar, and literature. As a result, many people with this major do not understand the rules of grammar and punctuation or the correct way to structure an essay, poem, or play nearly as well as they should because they have wasted time on non-English related classes. Frequently English Ed majors are C students in my Advanced Composition classes because they lack grounding in writing/mechanics fundamentals. On the other hand, a creative writing major focuses on developing your personal abilities to write poetry, fiction, and plays. Grammar and punctuation as well as the structure and organization of written work are of major importance. In addition, you must be able to analyze and critique your own work as well as the work of others. Most of the education stuff is irrelevant.
Usually, an English Ed major is planning to teach at the k-12 level, while an MFA (master of fine arts - graduate degree in creative writing) plans to teach/work at the college level. Hope this helps clarify things for you.
