Andy Said:
Aspiring writer in need of some guidance? We Answered:
Well, for me, bigger and more people around wouldn't exactly spell opportunity. There's more competition, and possibly instructors of the college are less likely to focus on any particular student over another because there would be so many. As to the degree, I would choose one that was broader in a sense that I could narrow down just what it is I want to do as I go along. As far as I know, you can always change your major/minor, and leaving your degree a bit flexible may help you to decide rather than drawing the line at just ONE area. Why not go for the one that would lead you to the other? If it's cheaper to live in Montreal, I would assume there would be less concern of how high the bills get, and less chance of you having to stress over the whole money situation. Either way, you need to do what YOU feel is going to work. Getting different perspectives is a good idea when considering such things, but it is ultimately up to you and what you want and need to do.Norman Said:
Student in need of Guidance...?We Answered:
The film industry is very much one in which who you know matters at least as much as what you know. I think you would do best to be near the bulk of the industry, which I believe in Canada would be in Toronto. York is a good school. If you really want to do this, the BFA program would be a better bet.Jimmie Said:
Aspiring Writer; in need of guidance!?We Answered:
To begin with, I'm not Canadian but I can advise you on how to go forward with your dream,...First off, you have to place yourself within easy reach of a financier or some agency that has an interest in what you're doing and that means going where the money is....money is where the rich folks are,..GO THERE by all means and stay there until people know who you are until your name makes people's eyebrows rise. As an artist/writer?....geeeeeesh you have to have an opportunity to meet people who make a difference and that in turn means staying in one place long enough for that opportunity to arrise....then you have to grab the opportunity because if you don't, somebody will. Be bold!Viola Said:
What classes should I take next year in Canadian Ontario high school? We Answered:
If you want to "make lots of money" you're going to need a heck of a lot more than high school in any of these areas. High school is just a foundation - you'll need at least community college and more likely more than that (e.g., a Gr. 12 law class is beyond pointless - to practice law, that's law school, which is another seven years of school and apprenticeship after that.)Sounds like you have enough to graduate and get into a liberal arts/humanities course at the college/university level. That's enough to start on a foundation to something like law or business studies, as well as communications technology if you have aptitude in that already. The rest of these would be rather big changes in your life - e.g., taking 11/12 chem and physics. Might not be worth the effort - you probably avoided taking sciences to this point for a reason.
Don't waste your time retaking high school courses if you can avoid it though - you might as well move forward to the next level vs. spin your wheels at the high school level. After college/university study, no one particularly cares what you did in high school.

Aspiring writer in need of some guidance...?We Answered:
1. Tradition, for students, requires cheap and easy ( home cookingoption notwithstanding). To be non-traditional first requires hearing Randy Newman sing: "Its Lonely At The Top."
.....
2. Apply yourself to general education the first two years and B.A.
in single or double-major. Summa *** laude if you have the wit. This is no place to rest on laurels. Continue on to Master, at which time should specialize, but the smart money comes with scholarships.
Doctorate of Arts or British Columbia University employment should
enter your realm of wizardry.
