Creative Writing Contests High School Students

Grace Said:

which colleges should I apply to?

We Answered:

I would put Georgetown in Wash DC high on your list. Harvard is also always high on the list for anyone studying Poli/Sci (Being an international student always opens up more doors even to the top schools). I would put most of the DC schools (e.g. Catholic University, American University, George Mason College). I would also put most of the state universities that are in state capitols (e.g. SUNY Albany, UT Austin, Sac State) and also private universities in capital cities (e.g. University of Denver) - these all will provide extra linkages and real life opportunities to play in the political world. studying poli - sci in one of the elite private colleges is often not as great (I did this for a year at Middlebury - bad choice).

3.6 UW GPA, 2340 SAT: Should I Apply To Top Colleges?

We Answered:

You should apply if that's where you want to go. Yes, UF is a very respectable public university and Gainesville is a decent college town, and you would almost certainly get a free education. (Haven't lived in Florida for a few years, so I'm not sure what's been happening with Bright Futures.) That being said, when I got into UF and chose to go to a more prestigious school, I had a wonderful experience that I wouldn't trade for the world.

Your GPA could be higher, but I think you would be a competitive applicant. As for not wanting to spend the money on applications, you should be able to get application fee waivers from your guidance counselor for up to 4 schools, if the money is really a concern.
