How can an Australian get into an Ivy League Collage?

We Answered:

You need to be elite for those schools. Top ACT/SAT scores and top grades. Being foreign doesn't rule you out, but some of the other things you mentioned might. You also need money and frequently to be a legacy. They make it selective and difficult purposely.

Advice in applying to colleges?

We Answered:

Creative writing is not a frequently offered subject in college. I suggest majoring in English literature. The techniques of analyzing literature and poetry which you will learn there will help you understand what makes a good poem or story. It will also, when you add a year of teacher training, enable you to teach high school. Berkeley's English department is still probably the best of the UCs'.Good luck!

Would I be eligible for Baruch College?

We Answered:

Hey Lulu :)
I am not familiar with the state of new york and their colleges. However, I am graduating next year with my B.A. in English from a reputable state school I go to and I am also becoming an English teacher. It is not a bad idea to aspire to be anything, and knowing what you want to do before college even starts allows you to save time and get internships, editor positions, and a lot more, so that is good. I don't know Baruch but I wanted to reply since you seemed you wanted some sort of advice. I think your transcript is quite good and if you are an NY resident, if you retake SATs, I thoroughly believe you have a shot at NYU and with some student loans, it may not be a bad idea if you really want to go there! Your ECs are decent, and your writing score is good. Just study the math and CR and their strategies a bit more, I know you could pull up your score. Apply to as many colleges as you want. Applying to colleges is almost like fishing, you want to cast a wide net and then choose from whatever you win :P Plus, if you are really good at writing as you say and can get strong recs, then with a good personal statement I think that will put you through the door at NYU.

Good luck!

Sarah

Anyone else been wait-listed for oxford?

We Answered:

Congrads on not being denied. Its going to be a waiting game, it always is with the elite schools. Here in the states you can wait for months for an answer. Call her up and ask her directly so you don't go mad! I hope they send you another letter of positive acceptance! Lets hope for people to deny acceptance to make room for you
