Creative Writing Community

Marian Said:

I have to "define and analyze" a community for my college writing class. Any creative ideas?

We Answered:

For a college writing class? How about analyzing a community of writers - currently my favorite community is www.storymash.com, it's a smallish group (maybe about 1000) of collaborative storytellers!

Dustin Said:

Anyone majoring in english lit and/or creative writing in a COMMUNITY college?

We Answered:

I'm not, but I do have information to share with you. Some students start out at a community college, get their two year degree, then transfer to a university for further studies. Most, not all, editors do have at least a four year college degree.

The Occupational Outlook Handbook can give you further information. Go to www.bls.gov/oco and run a search for writer. They list writer and editors together and give the information for both.

Good luck, enjoy your studies.

Kevin Said:

Are there any good creative writing community sites like heelpress.com?

We Answered:

I can't look at the website for some reason, but I did make my own writing website if you want to look at it. Right now there aren't many members and its not active yet. But about a month from now its going to get an upgrade and some friends of mine are going to be spreading it around. So hopefully it won't be long before it becomes active.

Rachel Said:

If go for a degree in english/creative writing at a community college, what will I actually be doing/studying?

We Answered:

Good answer, but if you really want to become a communicator, take communications or journalism. They provide better entry into non-academic positions. English majors study a lot of literature, which is good, but really does not lead to clean communication skills.

Advertise yourself in the newspaper or online..show some of your work. Both writing and art. Then ask for donnations and auction your paintings or writings.
