Coral Center in Pasadena will have a summer program similar to last year's, it was a really good program. They'll have info on this summer's program soon:

Pasadena City College Look to see what they have during the summer session. You'd want to apply and register asap, classes may get filled. Your principal and parents need to sign a form that they approve.

Jacqueline Said:

I would like to do free creative writing classes? Any ideas on where I can hold them.?

We Answered:

You have a computer and can do creative writing by yourself till you have the momentum going.

Then good book stores have lots of connections.

Keep going! Maybe you'll be published someday...and just think I talked you into it first!!!

Jean Said:

How helpful have you found creative writing classes in focusing your writing?

We Answered:

So long as the course has a workshop component, it's not likely to be completely futile: sharing and getting feedback on your work can be incredibly valuable. Before you do make the investment, though, you might want to look around for writers' groups in your area, or ask if you can sit in on a course to make sure the instruction's focused on what you want (or at least that the professor's open to student input).

Leona Said:

Are creative writing classes worth it? Are they good or bad?

We Answered:

I took a few creative writing classes in high school last year, and am planning on taking one again next year, and I can honestly say that without the class I would be nowhere near where I am today as a writer.

However, it all depends on the teacher of the class or the curriculum (if you're taking it in school). In my class we had a "free write" unit, in which we wrote whatever we wanted. I focused on developing a novel, my friend worked on poems. We got critiques from the teacher as well as our fellow classmates, and it was a really relaxed, inspirational environment. There were also smaller units weaved into the free write unit, such as poetry and script writing, which really helped my style. Even though I don't particularly enjoy writing poetry, I learned how to create rhythm and chose words carefully, while also further developing my voice.

The most important thing I got out of the class though was practice. We wrote everyday, at least a page, if not more, and, though I loathed it at times, I could see my writing improving. It's just like playing a sport or an instrument, the more you practice, the better you'll get.

So, are they worth it? I'd say yes, but I think the answer to that really depends on the teacher and on what you're looking for out of the class. Maybe go and talk to the teacher, try to find out what all you'll be doing. Then determine for yourself if it's what you are looking for...

Anyway, I hope I could help,
Good luck and happy writing :)
