Creative Nonfiction Writing

Nicole Said:

What's a good magazine to submit my article to?

We Answered:

there is a book at the library called writers mkt that lists magazines plus what they renumerate

give your story online to a few dozon of them

you might meet an editor with a page filling requirement which makes your narrative an opportunity

if you want people to think on your idea though Id consider doing it as a voice with a youtube video of attractive women a hundred K views is less than a big magazine yet I think most people could get that or much more with youtube

Where can I see some good use of dialogue in fiction/nonfiction stories?

We Answered:

I read/write romance, but the best dialoguer I have came across is Sabrina Jeffries. Her pace is fast and she pushes her plot mainly through dialogue.

Carla Said:

Do you believe talent in one area of writing lends itself to another? i.e. nonfiction to fiction?

We Answered:

Considering the number of successful authors who started as newspaper reporters, I would say that the talent might cross over. However, I tend to believe that the practice and of writing for publication is what really does it. Honing the skills in the news room just helps the author develop the ability to write in an effective style.

Jason Said:

creative nonfiction.!!!!?

We Answered:

within this genre include personal essays, memoir, travel writing, food writing, biography, literary journalism, blended forms such as Alison Bechdel's graphic memoir, Fun Home, lyric essays, braided essays, and even hermit crab essays (this last form, popularized by writer and teacher Brenda Miller, uses a recognizable non-narrative framework such as a grocery list or recipe). Creative nonfiction varies in length from the "flash" nonfiction found in the journal Brevity to classic magazine-length essays such as Virginia Woolf's Death of a Moth (a topic later revisited by Annie Dillard) to mighty tomes such as James Agee's Let Us Now Praise Famous Men.

How Do I Get Started When Writing A Nonfiction Book?

We Answered:

First thing first...realize that you have the right to write any book, and that it doesn't matter what others think! You sound very self consious about your writing from your post, and you don't need to prove that your book has merits. Now for actually writing, just start writing! You said it will got over last few years, start where you want. Maybe start out with you, the main character, going over how you felt when you found out, or maybe your mothers reaction if you were too young, and a summary of many some main things that have impacted you up to that point. Then start where you want, what main experience is significant that you want to start at? And just begin writing. Maybe even checking out some biographies or autobiographies from the library and reading how they start theirs and get going might be helpful. Maybe familiarize yourself a bit more with them, and that should help you get started.
