Writing Skills In Business

Kevin Said:

I am graduating with a degree in Writing and Composition. Will businesses hire me?

We Answered:

If they're specifically looking for someone with writing skills, sure, you'll have an edge provided they like your portfolio. Otherwise, experience counts for a lot more than whatever subject your degree's in - and if you don't have it, they might gravitate toward someone who's more likely to understand the practical side of the business. If it's not too late for you to find an internship, I'd get working on that.

How to improve business writing?

We Answered:

First of all, let me say that you are good looking =) However, that is not your question and beside the point. =)

You write kind of like you are writing a book. In a business memo or letter, you want to be less...personal and descriptive and more straight to the point, and keep it related to business at hand. Because english is not your first language, the way you word things can be confusing, but that is natural, and within your company, it doesn't matter too much, as long as your co-workers can understand what you really mean to get the job done. You could possibly take some business classes which teach you how to write different types of letters such as resume, cover letter, memo, reference, etc.

I'm an american chinese and my chinese is pretty bad, and my girlfriend is from mexico, so spanish is her first language.
