In high school they're still being taught to write letters of application for college and jobs. I'm happy to see that some schools are starting to teach students how to write profession emails now. If they're going to use email, they need to know how to write the for business purposes because all of that shorthand stuff isn't going to fly in a business setting.

I think that sounds great. The one thing you left out is how you'd like them to respond. If you want them to sign a release of some kind, you will need to include that release and add a paragraph asking them to sign it and return it.

If you need a letter frrom them, then ask for that.

In short, it looks great, but you did not tell them how to provide their approval to you.
