How To Write A Business Report

Nellie Said:

How to write a marketing monthly report for a small business?

We Answered:

One thing that helps is to set goals and project milestones. You want to have long-term goals and short-term goals. When you set these, you can include in your report what progress you made on the long-term goals, which short-term ones you've accomplished, and what new goals you're setting this month. You'll always have something to talk about this way and it makes your marketing efforts measurable.

Your marketing report might also discuss budgeting. While you don't want to share specifics with a wide audience, you can talk about whether projects are overbudget or underbudget and talk about how you troubleshooted things...this will make you look good and will also energize your employees to do more to keep their projects in budget and on time.

You can also put focus on the clients and talk about the projects you did and the success that it had and how your training impacted their organizations. If the report is going to be shared with anyone outside of your company, get clients' permission before using their names.

Lastly, think of it as a newsletter. Some people think of marketing as only Promotions (as in, how well did our ad campaign go?). However, you can also talk about other aspects of the marketing mix. Where did you PLACE ads? What new PRODUCTS or programs did you develop? Are you offering any special PRICES or discount packages?

What is the best way to set out a report?

We Answered:

For Legal writing there are 5/6 principals.
1. 20 - 25 words per sentence
2. remove excess words
3. Avoid the passive voice
4. Avoid nominalizations
5. Avoid abstractions
6. Avoid long paragraphs

The Legal Issue Statement should include:
1. jurisdiction - international, federal, state
2. statute or case law
3. legal theory
4. facts

In doing research we first look at Secondary sources.

Legal Dictionaries are NOT a binding authority.

In doing a national search, we look at: National Legal Encyclopedias,
Amjur, Corpis Juris Secundum. (both are secondary non-binding authority)

How do I start my report on computers?

We Answered:

Well, it's sort of a complex thing. We can't just stop and write it all down for you, try using google. I mean, I COULD write it all down, but I don't want to finish your essay for you. :)

How much thought should investor give to the cost of commission when deciding to buy or sell in the short trm?

We Answered:

IMO...there are a lot of variables that go into what you ask. The liquidity of the stock (how easy it is to buy or sell), where the stock is traded, and most importantly what type of profit the investor is looking for.

Many major houses now days charge a flat rate of NASDAQ and NYSE traded stock, but pink sheet , OTC, and penny stocks may cost more (based upon liquidity). I think NASDAQ has the 5% rule (commission should not be more that 5% of the transaction).

Most savy investors have a window of opportunity (a purchase price, a selling price and how long to hold the stock).

In general, the shorter the term, the more the commission comes into play. This is also offset by the anticipated gain the investor is looking to realize as well. If a stock runs 15 points in one day then commission would be less of a factor.

Discuss It!
