Business Writing Style Guide

Andrew Said:

Native English speaker, can you make my writing sounds more native?

We Answered:

Here's what a native English speaker would generally say regarding each detail:

1. I have family back in (XXX), so I go to visit them every Christmas. (state a reason for the action, then specify the action.)

2. I mostly go to the office. There really isn't anything to do in (XXX), you know? (give an action, then specify the reason for the action. follow factual statements with questions such as "right?" and "you know?")

3. My dad takes me to business conferences and stuff like that. (be vague and don't expect to be asked to go into detail.)

4. Oh, he always wants me to meet up with his business pals. (act overly-exasperated about small things. refer to non-present authority figures on a personal level [refer to them by first name, call groups of them your "pals"].)

5. I usually design stuff while I'm there. (again, be vague.)

6. Well, you know, my dad has all kinds of licensed brands for kid's products. That's what he sells mostly. I help him out with his marketing. (be sure to lead into your next point so the other person cannot change the subject.)

7. Well, I log onto the brand's web site and pull images from it that I like. I toss them all together and use that combined picture with the products on the site. It's a little more complicated than that, but that's it in a nutshell. (paraphrase long explanations and say you "put it in a nutshell".)

Other native speakers will instantly understand what you're talking about, no matter how vague or simple you speak.

If you want more help, you could read popular magazines to learn some slang or something. (see what I did there?)

Good luck.

Just so you know, this is NOT a Native American thing. I believe its a new ager or wiccan thing, don't confuse them.

Michelangelo & Pope's Ceiling. STUDY GUIDE.?

We Answered:

"Woe to those who are at ease in Zion, and to those who feel secure on the mountain of Sama'ria, the notable men of the first of the nations, to whom the house of Israel come! "Woe to those who lie upon beds of ivory, and stretch themselves upon their couches, and eat lambs from the flock, and calves from the midst of the stall; who sing idle songs to the sound of the harp, and like David invent for themselves instruments of music; who drink wine in bowls, and anoint themselves with the finest oils, but are not grieved over the ruin of Joseph! Therefore they shall now be the first of those to go into exile, and the revelry of those who stretch themselves shall pass away."
