The important points are
1)Put name of company you are writing to on left side at top of page
2)Do one opening paragraph saying why you are writing.
3)Do one second paragraph saying exactly what you want in as few words as possible.Keep it very brief, companies dont have time to read through pages of A4 .
4)Do final paragraph saying that you hope to hear from them soon to conclude the letter.
Make sure that you put all your contact details on the letter including a phone number so that they can get back to you promptly.

What is a reference initial when people are writing a business letter?

If you are speaking of the reference line (normally follows the name/address of the person you are writing to, and before the greeting) you use "Re: " this indicates what the letter is in reference to.

If you are talking about the letters at the bottom of the letter, following the signature, like this: TE/ks where the capitilized letters are the initials of the person sending/writing the letter and the lower case letters are the person who typed the letter (usually a secretary).
