the writing is good, nice metaphors and quite funny. however, the pace feels slow and the way you put things feels redundant.

on the first one you say, "When God and I hooked up..." but you don't bring this up again, instead sticking to the metaphorical description of your dog walking. it's an interesting phrase and you don't refer to it again; this troubles me although I know that you don't want the metaphor to seem too obvious it goes on for long enough for you to make it literal again.

the more "light heart-ed" writing is somewhat funny in a quirky way like the first but it feels a little pointless. there's nothing wrong with the writing really it just feels like a lot of time spent on a negligible thing, house training.

What I do for short stories:
I imagine a scene. Just one scene in the beginning, middle, or end. I usually picture it as a movie. As I extend that scene and add more details, I add a beginning and end. What events leaded to that one scene? What will that scene lead in to?
Also, I use a wide variety of adjectives and words. This helps alot for me. My inspiration, (I'm in honors english) is impressing my teacher, and some times, it makes my writing looks more sophisticated too. Dictionary.com helps alot.
Also, join a literary club. Read. I can not stress that enough. Read as much literature as possible, and do not only focus on the plot. Focus on the wording. How does that author word every sentence? What is the tone behind it? What is the style of that author?
