I like it. I'm happy, I've seen pretty good excerpts this morning.

For the critique, I agree with Lolita B. You have quite a ... developed vocabulary, you use the right words at the right time, but you could improve on your grammar. To do this, I suggest reading more, it's like subconsciously learning - you won't realise, but you'll understand the different tenses and word positioning.

For example, you are writing most of this in past tense, using 'ed' on most verbs where it is needed is the biggest show of this. So, instead of saying 'which he think was crooked' - you should say 'which he thought was crooked' (although 'corrupt' is the word to use, not crooked)

I think you have great character development, already as a reader we know how each character feels, how they act and what their background is - great! We feel sympathetic for the main character, Franklin (but you should introduce his name earlier), and almost start a hate for his mother.

The dialogue quite good too.

Never say 'in short' - I think this shows the reader that everything he/she has just read is worthless. I'd cut out that sentence (In short, he's living a miserably horrible life) completely.

Finally, nice plot, I like it, keep writing, but also keep practicing

The fact that you took 8 AP classes and the rest were honors with a gpa of 3.3 automatically shows the university that you challeneged yourself GREATLY! A university would rather see someone who challanged them and didn't do so well rather than someone who took all regular classes and recieved a 4.0 + you have a BUNCH of extracirriculars, which is awesome! good for you!

Instead of rushing to find out what you want to do.Enjoy life a little. Get to know the world. Relax. Sometimes when we do that you can see what our passion is about..
We are born with special gifts that we are good at. Find yours and see what goes from there. But relax, teach- that would be a good choice. and get to know the world.
