There has been a lot of attention in the media lately, around the idea of the Mayan Calendar which ends at 2012. There have been an awful lot of doomsday people looking for the end of the world then. My own personal feeling about it is that they had to end their calendar somewhere, all calendars and timepieces have a beginning and an end, and throughout history, the notion that the world will end in 2012 is just the latest of hundreds of such predictions by doomsayers that have yet to come about, we're still here after Y2K for example, and when Y2K came and went, they had to find some other date to set their sites on and give everybody the willies over. Possibly you have been hearing or reading too much about the Mayan Calendar and giving it too much thought?
Twelve is a number of cycles. The Mayan Calendar ends in 2012. A normal calendar has 12 months. A clock or watch runs in 12 hour cycles. The Chinese zodiac has 12 years, while a western zodiac has a cycle of 12 months. It takes 12 months for the Earth to make it around the sun. Maybe this doomsday imagery portends the end of an important cycle in your life, and the beginning of a new one....

A clock in the sky could be a metaphor for "time flies", and the reporter on the news telling you to go be with your family, it could just be that time is fleeting, it flies by before we even know it is gone, and the time we get to spend with our loved ones runs out before we even know it. We can all wind up telling ourselves we are too busy to spend the time with our loved ones, life is distracting, and we can get too wrapped up in other obligations. It could be as simple as that you aren't taking enough time for friends and family, their hours are numbered, as are yours, and when that time runs out, our lives are the darker for it. Time pressure rules the lives of the average modern person, everyone playing beat the clock... Perhaps you have been wrapped up in your own responsibilities, and haven't felt able to take enough time to be with the ones you love, and feel regret or guilt over it....

What if they chose not to accept cards at all? If I want the product, I will buy it for cash. If I don;t, or dislike the business practices... I will vote with my feet and tell the owner why. I can appreciate that fees on certain cards may squeeze profit margins, so I appreciate their predicament. Being a sophisticated consumer, I would advise the merchant that the VISA card I was producing was a debit card, if properly debited lowers his costs of sale to $ .25 and not 4%.
