Business Letter Writing

Jessica Said:

Question about writing a business letter?

We Answered:

'Dear Sir' or 'Dear Sirs' should be fine!

Christine Said:

I am in a lot of debt and I am writing a business letter to the credit card company..?

We Answered:

Having it notarized isn't going to make them call off their collection procedures.

It is nice you want to let them in on what is going on with your life, but this isn't going to put a halt to the bill coming every month and them reporting you as delinquent to the credit bureaus.

Instead of focusing on writing letters to credit card companies, get your resume written!

Business letter writing?

We Answered:

Here is how I would write it:

\
First, I must apologize. In the letter dated 12/20/09, the proposed 'Alternative A' included the part,'…’...

Your understanding and consent of our intentions would be greatly appreciated.
\

In the first sentence much of the implied information can be eliminated. It is like using?unnecessary ??? and ???? That also eliminates many of the commas.

In the second sentence, the passive voice is better. In this instance, active voice comes across as ???, and it is a little too forceful or commanding.

Hope this helps!
