Business Letter Writing Training

Frances Said:

What is the best way to addres a business letter to married couples?

We Answered:

You are correct in your example. Unless they communicate otherwise, this is the proper way to address those who are married and widows. If someone prefers to be addressed differently then they will inform you, until then widows and married couples are to be addressed in the manner you described.

If there is a hyphenated name that the wife goes by then you address his name first, under which you address the wife's hyphenated name on the envelope. This would also be done in the opening of the letter.

Fred Said:

spec letter help!?

We Answered:

Most companies are not willing to pay the cost for inexperience employees because they (the company) figure in the cost of training, insurance, wages, etc.

You may want to think about adding in the fact that although you do not have the required experience needed for the job, you are willing to enter into the companies internship program.

This may not help pay the bills but it will allow you to get your foot in the door and show the company that you are very interested in working with them.

The links below are sample cover letters that is specifically geared towards an inexperience person that is wanting to work for a highly qualified company.

who controls train schedules? 10 points?

We Answered:

You did not provide enough information. Which trains are you asking about? The letter should be sent to the head of that company or public agency./

Jeffrey Said:

Are you good at punctuation, spelling, or writing?

We Answered:

Dear Trudy

I would like to inform you that I no longer will be working at Verizon. I feel as though I have wrongfully been judged.
My whole life I have been told that I was a fast learner, so when I am told I am not learning quick enough I can't help but take it personally. It makes me feel that I am no longer wanted at Verizon. First impressions are everything.
"One of our instincts called 'first impressions to classify' is at work here," O'Keeffe explains. "Humans make quick judgments from first impressions and use these quick judgments to classify experiences. Once people have classified their opinion, it's hard to shift that opinion. We judge subsequent events by how we have already classified the information."
One of my teachers (an Anthropologist) once told me that first impressions are so hard to change. It's scary. I honestly felt really lucky to have this job. I thought maybe this would be the first job that I had ever had that I didn't loathe but an opinion of me has already been formed that I fear I can not change.

I was told that the first week I was going to be doing computer training and I actually was trying to interact with the people the best I could. I wasn't receiving a lot of training, and I know you guys were busy. You kept asking people to let me go through the motions, and for them to talk me through it. Well that never happened it would start out that way and then they would get impatient or rushed and do it themselves. Even when I would ask for help I often had to ask 3 or 4 times before anyone would answer me, so I can't help feeling confused. I want you to know I am not quitting because I feel like I can't do it, I am quitting because I feel like the District Managers don't believe I can.

Trudy you have been kind and I want to thank you for that.

Patsy Said:

Should I write to the owner of the business where I worked?

We Answered:

Just let it go. It is no longer a concern of yours. At least you were smart enough to get out of the situation - if the other workers are too afraid to leave and wish to continue to be abused - well, that's their choice. Some letter from a person who quit isn't going to change anything and will probably go unread as well.

Discuss It!
